Enhanced torturers, Enhanced deals

The USA Justice Department prosecutor is still investigating whether any CIA "enhanced interrogation expert", including Torture psychologists James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen, should face criminal charges.

But just in case the last two ones are not above the Law, the CIA has agreed to cover at least $5 million in legal fees for the architects of the agency’s "interrogation" program.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The CIA agreed to cover at least $5 million in legal fees for two contractors who were the architects of the agency’s interrogation program and personally conducted dozens of waterboarding sessions on terror detainees, former U.S. officials said.
The secret agreement means taxpayers are paying to defend the men in a federal investigation over an interrogation tactic the U.S. now says is torture. The deal is even more generous than the protections the agency typically provides its own officers, giving the two men access to more money to finance their defense.
It has long been known that psychologists Jim Mitchell and Bruce Jessen created the CIA’s interrogation program. But former U.S. intelligence officials said Mitchell and Jessen also repeatedly subjected terror suspects inside CIA-run secret prisons to waterboarding, a simulated drowning tactic.
The revelation of the contractors’ involvement is the first known confirmation of any individuals who conducted waterboarding at the so-called black sites, underscoring just how much the agency relied on outside help in its most sensitive interrogations.

As American torture Program goes unpunished and the CIA walks away with torture from waterboarding to “enhanced interrogation techniques”, illegal human experiments and whatever other atrocities they have been committing, British Courts go ahead and three of the interrogators have been “referred to the Director of Service Prosecutions, who has been asked to consider war crimes charges under the 2001 International Criminal Court Act.”.

No “informed consent” necessary in any human experimentation by US Defense Department - Deputy Def Secretary Paul Wolfowitz's Dec 2001 memos show

After over a year of research, Jason Leopold, Truthout’s Deputy Managing Editor, and psychologist Jeffrey Kaye, compiled a track record of the development of human experimentation in the Bush administration’s Torture Program.

The compiled documents point to the fact that the Bush-era torture program gave continuation to work in the field of human experimentation that the US took over from the Nazis, and also involved the complicity of senior officials, who pretended that the program was designed to prevent future terrorist attacks.

In interview with a former Pentagon official, who worked closely with the USA Department of Defence’s ex-general counsel William Haynes, the official said that in 2002, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz loosened rules against human experimentation, apparently in recognition of legal problems regarding strategies to be used for extracting and evaluating information in the "War on Terror".

Wolfowitz issued directives to provided legal cover for a top-secret Special Access Program which experimented on ways to glean information from unwilling subjects and to achieve “deception detection.”

The Plutonium Files
Interview with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Eileen Welsome, author of "The Plutonium Files: America's Secret Medical Experiments", which reveals some of the information about secret human experiments conducted by American military and spy agencies. Unethical, illegal, without knowledge or informed consent Human Experiments by American doctors:" shocking, it's tragic" ...

Wellesley College historian Susan Reverby, while going through the the archived records of a government researcher involved in the infamous Tuskegee study, discovered recently, that American doctor Dr. John Cutler led a project in Guatemala in which American doctors deliberately infected prisoners and patients in a mental hospital with syphilis and in some cases gonorrhea. A total of 696 men and women were exposed to syphilis.

In the infamous Tuskegee syphilis study, researchers recruited more than 350 impoverished African-Americans with syphilis for research related to the natural progression of the untreated disease.

The human experiments in Alabama, conducted between 1932 and 1972, were revealed only after Peter Buxtun, a PHS venereal-disease investigator finally went to the press in the early 1970's, after having expressed concerns about the ethics and morality of the extended Tuskegee Study as early as 1966.

The story broke first in the Washington Star on July, 2972.

In the case of the experiments in Guatemala, it took 60 years and a historian for the facts to come to light.

This is one more of the numerous human experiments the United States performed that have been considered unethical, often performed illegally, without knowledge let alone consent of the victims.
